A British Firm has created what’s believed to be the worlds first wind up mobile phone. The handset, called the Ventus is still in the prototype stage at the moment, the first model is scheduled for launch in the first half of next year.
The company behind it, TCL have already produced wind up torches, radios and portable music players. They say one minute of cranking will allow for four minutes’ talk time. Wind up chargers are on the market already, but because the handset a solar panel backing it charges the battery directly, making it far more efficient.
The creators expect the handset to sell well in developing countries. Tony Davies, Director of TCL believes places like India and Africa would benefit from the Ventus because despite having very good mobile coverage there are let down by the power supplies.
