Men and women have completely different approaches when dealing with technology, according to research done by a gadget help line. Findings suggest men are more gung-ho when it comes to new gadgets, with 64% of males admitting to ignoring instruction manuals. Women have a different approach, it looks as thought they turn to the manual first with only 24% discarding operating manuals.

“There is evidence of a gender divide in technology, although a lot of it comes down to interpretation” said Joanna Baura, chartered psychologist and editor of the usability news website. Basically men see technology as a challenge, something to conquer, whereas women look to understand the appliances that will benefit them.

The Gadget help line surveyed 75,000 calls. Astonishingly 12 % male and 7% female callers simply needed to plug in or turn on the appliance. The main problem callers dealt with was syncing one gadget with another, founder and chief executive of the help line Crispin Thomas said newly released products caused the most problems, for example back in 2008 they had a large amount of phone calls about the new blue-ray players. Despite having 120,000 subscribers to the help line in the UK, Mr Thomas doesn’t believe appliances are becoming more complicated, he just thinks they’re expected to do a lot more.
