Rumours have circulated for years about the prospect of a Google branded mobile phone, now there is some substance behind them. Google confirmed, on a blog that it is in the testing stages for a mobile device. Within the article they stated that they are ‘dogfooding’ potential mobile phones, a term used by manufacturers meaning to eat their own dog food, or in Google’s case, to test out its product.
“We recently came up with the concept of a mobile lab, which is a device that combines innovative hardware from a partner with software that runs on Android to experiment with new mobile features and capabilities, and we shared the device with Google employees across the globe. This means they get to test out a new technology and help improve it.”
Google won’t disclose any product details but they have said they will discuss the product once the testing period is over. However, the mobile community are still unsure whether Google has Mobile phone plans or if this is simply another Android OS update.
