Orange is expecting the number of texts and picture messages sent to soar over the Christmas period. Last year Orange noted over 100 million texts and more than 1million picture messages were sent on Christmas day. Similar numbers were recorded around New Year.

In a press release Orange said “Millions of text and MMS get sent across the Orange network everyday but at Christmas and New Year the numbers rise as customers share their greetings and snapshots of their dodgy Christmas jumpers.”

Orange predict that picture message figures will increase to 1.1million this year with many friends and families wanting to share Christmassy images, including the tradition turkey, snowmen, gifts and trees.
