September the 14th is a big day for Samsung; it’s when they can truly begin their assault on the iphone market. Its smartphone application store will open in the UK, France and Italy with more than 30 European countries to follow. Initially, the store will be accessible to Omnia users and those with I8910 HD devices, but an expansion to other models is in the pipeline.
To activate the new service users will have to upgrade their handsets, but it’s a small price to pay for access to a host of games, reference apps, social networking, e-books and health-related tools. To start with the applications will only be available in three languages, English, French and Italian, but as the store widens its reach additional languages, devices and feature will also follow.
Over 300 applications will be available at launch, but this numbers expected to grow to over 2,000 by the end of this year. Samsung’s got a lot of interest from app makers, Gameloft, Electronic Arts, Handmark, Taito, Paragon SW and Capcom are just a few providers of applications to the Samsung Store
