For T Mobile, a merge with Orange can only be a good thing, throwing a lifeline for their UK Company. But, things aren’t so rosy for
the rest of the mobile market. Sure, we can expect better mobile phones and deals from the super-merge but where will it leave the
other networks?

The merge will thrust the company to the top of the rankings owning 37% of the mobile market, throw Virgin Mobile, which runs on T Mobile’s network into the mix and that figure could rise to 40%.

Apparently, the British mobile market is Europe’s most competitive and least profitable market. Consumer groups are worried that new technology is so expensive, only the big companies will use it. With Orange and T Mobile leading the market they may well splash the cash, pushing the smaller companies out.

From a competition perspective, the deal is better than letting T-Mobile land in the lap of O2 or Vodafone, the current market leaders. Hopefully mobile sites like Phones4u can help keep steady competition within the market.
