For sometime now there have been rumblings in industry corners, discussing Nokia's apparent truancy from the touch screen market bubble. Were we to believe that the mobile markets self proclaimed manufacturing champions had thrown in the towel, or were they planning a cunning plot of their own?
Thank fully, the latter was true, and those clever little Finns have been tucked away in fortress Helsinki orchestrating a cloaked assault on the market with the new Nokia 5800 Xpress at the helm. Obviously we all know the fundamental components of Nokia's reputation is based on user friendly reliable products, and this is possibly the reasoning behind this handsets timely launch.
Historically Nokia are renowned for their ability to only release handsets once tried, tested, and 100% ready for distribution, which is more than can be said for other 'unnamable/unshamable' manufacturer's devices only operational by 'jousting' the touch screen to death. So believe me when I say, the Nokia 5800 is ready.
To business now, and the Nokia 5800 Xpress is certainly an item worthy of anticipation, due to smooth edges, compact design, and extremely user friendly interfaces. I am actually of the belief that if my Grandparents ever left the iron age and joined the rest of us in the 21st century, even they could use a Nokia.
Being of a new generation, the Nokia 5800 contains social network access, wi-fi technology, GPS map functions, and an excellent video centre perfect for watching films, TV, and any visual entertainment thanks to an exceptionally clear 16m pixel colour screen. Even the gaming experience is sensor reactive, so treat you phone like a steering wheel as you race along the latest titles, or battle for the existence of hedgehog kind.
The camera functionality is only supported by a 3.2 mega pixel camera, however, this is not any 3.2 mega pixel lens, this is a crème de la crème Carl Zeiss lens. Day light shots, and nighttime low light images are of a high quality, although the shutter speed is a little slow for action shots. Direct Facebook image uploading is also handy.
Messenging services supports text, image, video, social networks, email, and even I.M, which can be addictive, although not appropriate in work hours apparently.
Ultimately, the release of the Nokia 5800 has been begrudgingly waited for, although it has been a wait worthwhile, and touch screen technology has firmly been welcomed and established at Nokia HQ.
You may have also noticed the Nokia 5800 Xpress's cameo role in the latest
Batman film, 'The Dark Knight', which is testament to the commitment Nokia
has in their latest addition. Although, I'm not sure if the standard civilian
model will be capable to blacking out entire buildings.
